Diopters and Split Diopters

A diopter is a close-up lens that goes in front of the camera lens and lets it focus closer, without changing to a macro lens. A split diopter covers only half the frame, so one side is sharp up close and the other side is sharp in the distance: the two-plane shot known from Brian De Palma's films.
