In August 2022, H&M brought a global TikTok campaign to Bangkok. The campaign was filmed in several of the world's big cities, and each city got its own TikTok video. Working directly with H&M and the campaign director, we produced the Bangkok film: one scene on the helipad of the CAT Tower in Bang Rak, high above the Chao Phraya River.
One camera in the middle, 360 degrees around it
Thirty performers in matching white tops and jeans spread out across the helipad around a special 360-degree camera in the centre. That shot became the base for the 3D animation: in the finished video, the view dives from the Earth to the coordinates of the tower and lands among the performers.
What we did
We handled the Bangkok production from start to finish:
- Pre-production and the schedule for the day.
- Location: scouting the rooftop and managing the location on the shoot day. Getting thirty performers, a glam team and a crew up to a helipad on time is a job of its own.
- Casting: thirty Thai teenagers.
- Glam: a team of hair and makeup stylists big enough to get thirty people ready.
- Wardrobe: H&M supplied the clothes, and we got the sizing right for all thirty performers.
- Camera and crew: all the equipment, including the special 360-degree camera, and the shoot itself.
Rainy season on the roof
August is the middle of the rainy season in Bangkok. Storm clouds built up over the city during the afternoon and a downpour left the helipad wet. Rooftop shoots in Bangkok between May and October need time built in for weather like this.
The final video
H&M posted the Bangkok video on its TikTok channel. Watch it below.
Shooting on a rooftop in Bangkok
Rooftops and helipads need the building owner's approval, and often a permit for the crew and equipment on the roof. Our fixer team arranges locations, film permits, casting and crew in Bangkok and across Thailand.
